BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy suspended for 'objectionable remarks' against Speaker

Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar on Thursday suspended BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy from the House for the remainder of the Budget Session for making some objectionable remarks in the Chair and insulting him. While participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address, the former minister at one point lost his temper and shouted at the Speaker, saying, "This House does not belong to you alone. You are here as our representative on behalf of all of us."

Serious objection to Jagdish Reddy's comments

Members of the ruling party, including several ministers, took serious objection to Jagadish Reddy's remarks, and some even demanded his disqualification from the House. Minister Danasaari Anasuya alleged that Jagadish Reddy insulted the Speaker because he belonged to the Dalit community. The proceedings were disrupted for four hours, and after the House resumed, the Speaker, by voice vote, passed a resolution suspending the member for the remaining period of the Budget session, which will end on March 27.

Decision to seek suspension

Leading the attack against BRS, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka proposed that Jagadish Reddy's conduct should be referred to the Ethics Committee. He recalled the autocratic behaviour of the BRS regime, which had disqualified Congress members Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Sampath. Emphasising the need to maintain the dignity of the House and the Speaker, the Finance Minister said that the Congress would respect democratic values almost at the same time and hence decided to seek suspension only for the session.
