Yarrahi had released this song in support of protests against the hijab, which had spread across Iran in 2022. The protests were triggered after the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who died in police custody for allegedly not wearing her hijab properly. Yarrahi responded to his sentence by expressing on social media that he was ready to pay the price for freedom. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, it has been mandatory for women in Iran to wear the hijab in public places.
The protests grew stronger in 2022 after Mahsa Amini's tragic death, which sparked outrage and led many women to challenge the hijab law. The issue of women’s right to wear or not wear the hijab continues to be monitored by the country's morality police. Following Amini’s death, mass protests erupted across Iran, with women taking to the streets to express their defiance. The international community condemned the harsh crackdown on these protests by Tehran, further highlighting the tension surrounding the hijab issue.
